A new Pokemon Go update means bad news for some fans

POKEMON Go news this week has seen Niantic roll out a big update, but not the one with the feature recently discovered by dataminers.

For those using a certain type of phone, playing the popular AR title might have become a real challenge.

Niantic confirmed back in January that they were set to cut down on the number of phone models that could support the game.

And now in the latest Pokemon Go news out this week, it been confirmed that the Niantic update has rolled out.

The Community Day earlier this week may have been the last hurrah for those still using an iPhone 5 and 5c.

Niantic are removing phones that can’t run iOS 11, and is apparently tied to something Apple themselves are doing with app support.

“In an upcoming update to Pokémon GO, we will end support for Apple devices not capable of upgrading to iOS 11, such as iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c models,” a message from Niantic explains.

“This change is a result of improvements to Pokémon GO that push the application beyond the capabilities of the operating systems on such devices.

“This change will take effect on 02/28/2018. After that date, Trainers using affected devices may no longer be able to access their Pokémon GO accounts from that device, or use their PokéCoins or other items in their Bags.

“They will need to switch to a supported device to continue playing Pokémon Go.”

One of the biggest groups affected by this may be kids playing the game, as some parents have revealed they’ve been handing them down so that they could play their own accounts.

Regardless of who is using them, being locked out of playing Pokemon Go will be a big blow for those currently enjoying the game.

Those who are left playing Pokemon Go have also been keeping their ear to the ground for what other big updates may soon follow this one.

Fans were hoping to see the launch of new single-player quest in February, although that may be further off than first thought.

Niantic appears to have removed all mention of the new quest feature, following the most recent Pokemon update.

The development team may have withdrawn quests while it continues to work them, but either way, it could be a long time before we see quests in Pokemon Go.

When launched this could add a new multi-quest system to the game, complete with a greater emphasis on supporting characters.

And an in-game quest system that incorporates new characters and pre-conditions that boast increasing levels of difficulty and progress would prove very popular with Trainers.

There’s no word on a release date yet, although fans will be hoping for some kind of news to drop later this month.
